Weekend Adventures - Gruene + Wimberley Texas

Wes and I decided since we don't know how much longer we'll be here in Texas, that we should try and make a bucket list of all the things we want to do before we potentially leave. This past weekend we went to Gruene and Wimberley, two small towns nestled in the heart of the Texas hill country. They're full of cute boutiques, restaurants, antique shops and more! We had fun exploring even though it was 105º outside and miserable. I was sweating like a sinner in church, this southern heat is NOT for the faint of heart. Send rain please...

When we first rolled into Gruene it was PACKED. It took us a minute to find parking. But once we did, we were off to exploring! We were all pretty hungry when we got there, so the first thing we did was search for a place to eat. We came across this cute little crepe food truck. They had everything from sweet to savory. We ordered our food, and to escape the heat we wandered inside an olive oil tasting room. It was amazing how many different flavors they had. After a while our order was finally ready. I ended up getting the beef fajita crepe and it was good!

After we finished eating we walked across the street to a cute house that was turning into an antique shop. There's something so magical about antique shops. Being the history nerd that I am, I just love imagining each piece and what its story is. There were a few things I wish I could've brought home with me. We also found a ceramic piece that had the Nazi swastika from World War II and that was definitely interesting to see here in the US.

We wondered to a few other shops around town and then packed up and headed to Wimberley.

Once we pulled into Wimberley we parked, let the kids go to the bathroom, and let them play some corn hole in the open courtyard area.

We got to Wimberley around 5:00pm and everything was pretty much closing up or already closed. We did find a cute boutique that was open and Ellie ended up with a colorful headband. We ended up wandering into an old candy shop and the kids were in heaven. Wes had to grab some candy cigarettes because how could he not!? Did anyone else grow up getting those? After the candy shop we walked into a few shops that were open, including a plant shop. Walking into it just made me all warm and fuzzy inside. I wanted all the hanging plants!

Once we had walked through all the open stores, we headed back to the car. It was about an hour and a half drive home and the kids knocked out almost immediately.

It was a HOT but fun day, and we definitely made some family memories!
